Shippo at the DeveloperWeek Hackathon
Over Valentine’s weekend, Shippo sponsored our first hackathon ever – organized by DeveloperWeek, a whole 7-days of developer talks and events across San Francisco.
We challenged teams to use our newest Tracking API to create a better shipment tracking visualization and alert app. The tracking API lets you pull shipment tracking statuses from all major carriers through one system.
Here are some of the great apps built in just 36 hours.
TrackMonkey
TrackMonkey lets your enter a shipment tracking number, and get SMS notifications whenever the shipment status is updated. It was the winner of the Shippo hackathon challenge!
The app was created by Byron Sha, Daniel Eager, Hank Fanchiu, Johnny Reis, and Mack Siu – a team of recent graduates from App Academy. They were able to build the application by hooking up the Shippo Tracking API with the Google Maps API and Twilio API.
You can use TrackMonkey right now to get your tracking status updates via SMS.
If Shippo Then That
If Shippo Then That is an app that lets you connect shipment tracking updates with different notifiers through IFTTT. For instance, you can set up email notifications or texts whenever a shipment status changes. It was built by Adolfo Schneider, Tais Bellini, and Thom Morais – our virtual hackathon team in Brazil.

Shippobot
This simple Slackbot can pull up the full tracking history of a shipment if you just give it the carrier you’re shipping with and the tracking number. Built by Alex Miller, bot enthusiast and Founder of TexTurner, the human translation bot for Slack.

ZenTracker
True zen is when you can get your shipment updates from virtually anywhere. ZenTracker is an all-in-one shipment tracking app that works as a web page, Chrome extension, Slackbot, and SMS notifier.
