The Bible: Our New Shipping API Guide

We’re happy to share that we have a clean, user-friendly new API overview guide! It’s geared for developers integrating our API into their e-commerce store, marketplace or platform, and for those of you who are generally curious about shipping APIs.

This guide is the best starting point to better understand the power and flexibility of our API. It reads smoothly and clearly with easy copy-paste code snippets throughout. Our main goal in writing it was to provide step-by-step tutorials explaining both the technical integration and shipping concepts, such that it’s 100% clear how the integration works.

We want to highlight the Customer Showcase section. Read how four of our customers – Mercari, Vinted, Black Milk Clothing, and Avenue K – use our API to streamline their checkout and shipping processes.

tl;dr…What is a shipping API?

Our API automates and customizes shipping capabilities for your e-commerce business. It integrates seamlessly with your UI, powering the back-end of your storefront’s checkout process, enabling the user to retrieve shipping rates, create and purchase shipping labels, and much more. Live shipping rates from multiple shipping carriers can be displayed to the end-viewer so customers can pick their best shipping option. Integrating the API also gives you and/or your customer the option of getting live tracking updates once your package is shipped and delivered!

We’re very open to feedback, improvements, and requests. We want to make this as easy as possible. Please write us at to ask questions and to tell us about your experience integrating our API.

Shippo is a multi-carrier API and web app that helps retailers, marketplaces and platforms connect to a global network of carriers.
