How Did The USPS Shipping Rates Change in 2018?
All of the major carriers typically change their rates around the New Year. In January, USPS shipping rates increased an average of 3.9 percent across all service levels, including Priority Mail and First Class Package Service. For comparison’s sake, FedEx and UPS both increased their rates an average of 4.9 percent.
Please note: we’ll be covering Commercial Plus Pricing (CPP) in the USPS Priority Mail tables below. For USPS First Class, the lowest offering is Commercial Base Pricing (CBP), which is reflected in our charts. 2018 USPS Priority Mail Rates
USPS Priority Mail is a key shipping service for many e-commerce businesses. Packages shipped via Priority Mail will arrive within 1-3 business days, depending on where the package starts and ends. They’ll also have USPS Tracking and are insured up to $50 for most shipments. In 2018, Priority Mail saw an average increase of 6.2 percent.
2018 USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Prices
USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes and envelopes are some of the most popular services for e-commerce businesses, because they’re so easy to use. You can get the boxes for free, and you’ll pay a flat rate to ship a package weighing up to 20 pounds anywhere in the U.S. between 1-3 business days. Like the USPS slogan states, “If it fits, it ships”.
2018 USPS First Class Package Service Rates
If you’re looking to ship a package under one pound, you’ll likely want to consider the USPS First Class Package Service (FCPS). This service is the most cost-effective option for lightweight shipments, if you’re willing to wait the extra business day or two that it will take to deliver, compared to Priority Mail. FCPS will see an average increase of 19 cents; however, packages up to 4 oz. will only see a five-cent increase.
