What is the World Customs Organization (WCO)?

The World Customs Organization (WCO) is the international, independent, and intergovernmental agency that was put in place in 1952 to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of customs administrations worldwide. The WCO represents 184 countries’ customs organizations. Those countries in total process 98% of all trade in the world. The organization is based in Brussels, Belgium. Regarding what they do, the WCO works on matters related to customs such as supply chain security, commodity classification, illegal weapons trading, illegal drug enforcement, international conventions, and other topics surrounding international trade and international shipping.
