UPS Next Day Air® guarantees next-business-day delivery across the continental US through three tiers: Next Day Air Early, standard Next Day Air, and Next Day Air Saver. Shippo's commercial rates show a 4-lb package moving from Chicago to Indianapolis starting at $31.26 with Next Day Air Saver, before weight, zone, and account discounts change the math.
UPS sells overnight delivery as three separate products, each with its own delivery-time commitment and price point:
UPS Next Day Air Early®
Delivery by 8:00 a.m. in most major metro areas, with some destinations committed to 8:30 or 9:00 a.m., and extended areas guaranteed by 10:00 a.m. This is UPS's premium overnight tier, priced highest of the three.
UPS Next Day Air®
The standard overnight service: delivery by 10:30 a.m. to most commercial addresses, by end of day to residential addresses. This is the most commonly used of the three tiers.
UPS Next Day Air Saver®
Delivery by 3:00–4:30 p.m. to commercial addresses and by end of day to residential addresses. It's the cheapest of the three because it gives UPS a wider afternoon delivery window instead of a morning guarantee.
All three include a money-back guarantee: if UPS misses its committed delivery time, you can file for a refund. The guarantee isn't automatic, though. You have to request it within UPS's filing window after the ship date, and it can be suspended during severe weather or other service disruptions.
UPS also still provides free Next Day Air packaging (envelopes, boxes, and tubes), though eligibility now runs through a tier system based on your shipping volume, introduced in November 2025, rather than a flat allotment per account. Check your UPS account for your current allowance.
| Tier | Commercial delivery | Residential delivery | Saturday delivery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Next Day Air Early | By 8:00–9:00 a.m. (extended areas by 10:00 a.m.) | By 8:00–9:00 a.m. (extended areas by 10:00 a.m.) | Available (surcharge applies) |
| Next Day Air | By 10:30 a.m. | By end of day | Available (surcharge applies) |
| Next Day Air Saver | By 3:00–4:30 p.m. | By end of day | Not available |
Commitment times per UPS's published service guarantee as of July 2026 — UPS periodically adjusts specific windows (residential Next Day Air commitments in particular have moved between "end of day" and a fixed a.m./early-afternoon cutoff in recent guarantee updates), so confirm the current commitment for your exact route before quoting a delivery time to a customer.
A shipment moves through pickup, an overnight flight to the destination region, sorting at the local hub before dawn, and out-for-delivery dispatch that morning. Exact delivery windows shift slightly by zip code depending on how close the address sits to a UPS air hub. Rural addresses sometimes see later cutoffs than the headline commitment implies.
Generic "save X% off retail" claims don't hold up route to route. UPS Next Day Air pricing depends on weight, zone, and your account type. Here's what Shippo's commercial rates actually returned for a 4-lb, 12"×6"×2" package on two common routes.
Chicago (60601) → Miami (33131):
| Service | Rate |
|---|---|
| Next Day Air Early | $89.50 |
| Next Day Air | $59.50 |
| Next Day Air Saver | $51.86 |
Chicago (60601) → Indianapolis (46204):
| Service | Rate |
|---|---|
| Next Day Air Early | $67.70 |
| Next Day Air | $37.70 |
| Next Day Air Saver | $31.26 |

UPS offers Saturday delivery for Next Day Air Early and standard Next Day Air, with a surcharge on top of the base rate. Next Day Air Saver does not offer Saturday delivery at any price, so if you need a Saturday guarantee, you have to book one of the other two tiers.
UPS does not offer Sunday delivery on any Next Day Air service. If your route needs weekend coverage on both days, you'll need to plan around a Saturday-eligible tier and treat Sunday as a non-delivery day, or look at weekend shipping options across USPS, UPS, and FedEx more broadly.
| Next Day Air Early | Next Day Air | Next Day Air Saver | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Commercial delivery | 8:00–9:00 a.m. (extended areas by 10:00 a.m.) | By 10:30 a.m. | 3:00–4:30 p.m. |
| Residential delivery | 8:00–9:00 a.m. (extended areas by 10:00 a.m.) | End of day | End of day |
| Saturday delivery | Available | Available | Not available |
| Relative cost | Highest | Mid-range | Lowest |
| Best for | Time-critical morning deliveries | General next-day needs | Cost-conscious overnight, afternoon OK |
If your customer needs the package before a specific morning meeting or store opening, pay for Early. If next-business-day is the requirement but the exact hour doesn't matter, Saver covers it at the lowest overnight price point. For orders that can tolerate two or three days instead of one, UPS 3 Day Select or UPS Ground usually cost meaningfully less than any of the three overnight tiers.
A few things have changed since this page was last updated:
Does UPS Next Day Air deliver on Saturday?
Next Day Air Early and standard Next Day Air both offer Saturday delivery for an added surcharge. Next Day Air Saver does not offer Saturday delivery.
Does UPS Next Day Air deliver on Sunday?
No. UPS does not offer Sunday delivery on any Next Day Air service.
What's the cheapest UPS overnight option?
Next Day Air Saver is consistently the lowest-priced of the three tiers on the same route, because it gives UPS an afternoon delivery window instead of a morning one.
Is UPS Next Day Air actually guaranteed?
Yes. UPS backs all three Next Day Air tiers with a money-back guarantee if it misses its committed delivery time, though you have to file for the refund yourself within UPS's window, and the guarantee can be suspended during severe weather.
Does UPS still give out free packaging for Next Day Air shipments?
Yes, UPS still provides free envelopes, boxes, and tubes for Next Day Air shipments, but availability now follows a volume-based tier UPS rolled out in late 2025 rather than an unlimited flat allotment.
