Important USPS Shipping Rates for 2018 (with Charts)

USPS Shipping Rates Charts for 2018

UPDATE: Check out our post sharing the 2019 USPS shipping rate charts.

Here to share some of the popular USPS shipping rates for 2018 is our very own Rate Master, Peter Schwartz. While the rest of us dream in color, Peter dreams in tables and graphs. He can recite shipping rates like they’re Beyoncé song lyrics and is excited to help you get the best rate for every package you ship.

Shipping costs can make or break a business. In fact, 68 percent of business owners consider the cost of shipping to be their biggest operational challenge, according to our recent State of Shipping report. When the success of your business is on the line, shopping for rates can feel as critical as shopping for your first babysitter.

We get it. That’s why we created these handy USPS shipping rate charts for 2018. With these charts, you can make sure you’re using the best shipping service for your needs, while also staying informed about the new 2018 pricing information for the U.S. Postal Service.

How Did The USPS Shipping Rates Change in 2018?

All of the major carriers typically change their rates around the New Year. In January, USPS shipping rates increased an average of 3.9 percent across all service levels, including Priority Mail and First Class Package Service. For comparison’s sake, FedEx and UPS both increased their rates an average of 4.9 percent.

Please note: we’ll be covering Commercial Plus Pricing (CPP) in the USPS Priority Mail tables below. For USPS First Class, the lowest offering is Commercial Base Pricing (CBP), which is reflected in our charts. To see if you qualify for CPP rates, please contact sales@goshippo.com for a free shipping consultation today.

2018 USPS Priority Mail Rates

USPS Priority Mail is a key shipping service for many e-commerce businesses. Packages shipped via Priority Mail will arrive within 1-3 business days, depending on where the package starts and ends. They’ll also have USPS Tracking and are insured up to $50 for most shipments. In 2018, Priority Mail saw an average increase of 6.2 percent.

2018 USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Prices

USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes and envelopes are some of the most popular services for e-commerce businesses, because they’re so easy to use. You can get the boxes for free, and you’ll pay a flat rate to ship a package weighing up to 20 pounds anywhere in the U.S. between 1-3 business days. Like the USPS slogan states, “If it fits, it ships”.

2018 USPS First Class Package Service Rates

If you’re looking to ship a package under one pound, you’ll likely want to consider the USPS First Class Package Service (FCPS). This service is the most cost-effective option for lightweight shipments, if you’re willing to wait the extra business day or two that it will take to deliver, compared to Priority Mail. FCPS will see an average increase of 19 cents; however, packages up to 4 oz. will only see a five-cent increase.
